Alex O’Dell is a co-founder and COO of Floyd, a direct-to-consumer furniture brand based in Detroit. His focus at Floyd is on marketing, brand, finance and people operations. Alex founded Floyd with Kyle Hoff in 2013, and the pair started the company out of a frustration with disposable furniture. They set out to design products of lasting quality for how people live today. Floyd’s product offering today includes tables, a bed frame, and later this year, a sofa and shelving system. In 2018, they rolled out free same-day delivery in five major US cities, which allows customers to order their products by 4pm and receive it by 9pm. Their growth initiatives have included billboards across the road from Ikea, pop-up retail stores in beautiful homes through their Floyd Housewarming concept, as well as a partnership with Airbnb hosts called Stay Floyd. The company has grown to 22 employees and has raised over $6m in financing to-date, and is based in Eastern Market. Alex studied Public Policy at the University of Michigan, and loves cycling and photography.
